Official Release | March 17, 2017

Des Moines, Iowa – The Iowa Energy announced today the team will retire Curtis Stinson’s No. 10 jersey at halftime during their game on Saturday, March 25 at 7:00 p.m. versus the Northern Arizona Suns.

“It is truly an honor to have my jersey retired by the Iowa Energy organization,” Stinson said. “I will never forget the amazing games, our great fans and of course the championship we brought to Des Moines in 2011.”

Stinson played eight seasons during his career in the NBA D-League, spending his final six seasons with the Energy. During his time in Iowa, Stinson guided the Energy to four division titles (2009, 2010, 2011, 2014) and the franchise’s lone D-League Championship in 2011.

Drafted in the fourth round of the 2007 Expansion NBA D-League Draft by the Utah Flash, Stinson holds the D-League record in career assists (2,032) and is third in career steals (409). He was named to the All NBA D-League First Team twice (2010, 2011), All NBA D-League Honorable Mention once (2009), was a four-time D-League Performer of the Week and two-time D-League Player of the Month with the Energy.

Stinson is the Iowa Energy’s all-time leader in career points (3,647), assists (1,995) and steals (390) and is second in career rebounds (1,341). The guard also holds the Energy single-game assist record with 21, which happened on two separate occasions during his storied career.

A native of The Bronx, New York, Stinson played three seasons at Iowa State University, starting all three seasons (94 games) while averaging 17.6 rebounds, 6.0 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game. A player Bill Self once described as “the best guard in the Big 12,” Stinson twice received All-Big 12 Second Team honors (2005, 2006) and was honored with the Ralph A. Olsen Most Valuable Player Award three times (2004, 2005, 2006) as Iowa State’s team MVP.

Stinson ranks 12th in career points (1,651) 8th in assists (448) and 4st in steals (200) in Iowa State men’s basketball history and led the Cyclones to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2005.
