November 5, 2016 (Des Moines, IA) – The Iowa Energy dropped their preseason exhibition 85-96 to the Windy City Bulls at Wells Fargo Arena Saturday afternoon.
Four Energy players scored in double figures in the loss.
JaKarr Sampson led the way for Iowa, recording a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The MidAmerican Energy player of the game Cartier Martin joined Sampson in double figures with 19 points.
Wayne Selden Jr. added 10 points and 2016 D-League first-round draft pick Quinton Chievous chipped in 11.
The Bulls got off to a quick start, building an eleven point lead midway through the first quarter. The Energy would close the gap, ending the quarter on a 6-0 run, cutting the lead to 25-22.
Eight lead changes kept the game close in the second quarter with the Energy trailing at half 45-46.
After a Matt Costello layup closed the game to two with 5:37 remaining in the fourth, the Bulls would begin to pull away, ending the game on a 17-8 run.
Spencer Dinwiddie led the Bulls in scoring with 17 points and added eight rebounds. Four players finished in double-figures for Windy City.
The Energy begin the 2016-17 regular season with three road games, including the season opener against the Los Angeles Defenders on Nov. 11. The team returns to Iowa for the home opener on Nov. 19 against the Delaware 76ers. Tipoff at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
